Learn about Shad!
It's the Founding Fish, the one that sustained our great nation back in colonial days - it's the American Shad. In spite of its grand history, shad were nearly wiped out on much of the east coast. But thanks to great partnerships, led in large part by FYCC partner the Interstate Commission on the Potomac River, shad are back and are the heart of a great spring fishery here on the Potomac River. The ICPRB has provided a great background on shad and their programs, including the "Schools in Schools" program that works with DC metro schools to raise shad roe in the classroom and release them back into the river.
